To apply for the New York State Medical Marijuana Program, follow directions dictated by the website. It is important to note that these directions are specific for New York State residents, residents of other states will have to go through their state’s medical marijuana registration program. Below is a simplified flowchart of what to expect in the process of obtaining a medical marijuana card.

Qualifying conditions for a New York State medical marijuana card include severe, debilitating, or life threatening conditions such as:

-     Cancer
-     Positive HIV or AIDS status
-     ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)
-     Parkinson’s Disease
-     Multiple Sclerosis
-     Damage to the nervous tissue of the spinal cord with objective neurological indication of intractable spasticity
-     Epilepsy
-     IBS (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
-     Neuropathy
-     Chronic Pain
-     PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) or Huntington’s Disease

Patients must also have one of the following associated or complicating conditions:

-     Cachexia or wasting syndrome
-     Severe or chronic pain
-     Severe nausea
-     Seizures
-     Severe or persistent muscle spasms, PTSD, or opioid use disorder
